President Satoshi Hasegawa

In 2023, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic subsided and the economic situation was on a recovery trend, but conflicts not only in Russia and Ukraine but also in the Middle East region continued to affect the economy. Also, the foreign exchange market began to show signs of improvement towards the end of the year, but the yen remained weak throughout the year. This severely affected the Japanese economy as a whole while having a positive impact on the profits of exporting companies.

Our business performance in the first half year has been steady so far, with a 59% sales increase compared to the previous year. This is due to both remission of the COVID-19 situation in the first quarter of the previous year and to the added performance of LightStone, which we made a subsidiary in April 2023.

In October 2023, we acquired Grape Systems Inc. as a subsidiary. Although the company's contribution to earnings will be added from the third quarter, the company is an embedded system development company in the same industry as us, and since it has strengths in contract development, we were able to add its capabilities in this area in addition to its functions as a manufacturer and a trading company. By combining the contracting capabilities necessary for product sales, we will work to increase product sales through synergies, in addition to the added contribution of Grape Systems itself.

Facing a once-in-a-century change, we are continuing to work in accordance with our medium-term business plan formulated in June 2022 (revised in June 2023) to achieve our goal of "革 (kaku)" meaning "Big Change," through which we ourselves will significantly change over the next 10 years.

In 2023, we expanded our business scale through the above-mentioned M&A. This will contribute to the sales plans for this and the next period. We are currently reviewing sales plans and will disclose revised plans as soon as they are finalized.

In addition, by making LightStone a subsidiary, we were able to add new portfolio of IT packaged products in addition to the embedded software that we have been working on. As a result, we have been able to expand our customer base to include Japanese universities and other educational institutions, government research institutions, and research and investigation departments of major companies.

We aim to stabilize business profits by gradually expanding business from embedded systems to other IT fields.

The "HEXAGON" business platform for B2B technology, which we have been developing as a new business, has attained 60 supporting and collaborating companies and organizations in the past year and a half.

Through this platform, new initiatives have arisen that our company has never tackled before, such as proposing solutions based on multiple startup products and collaborating with Kitakyushu City (a local government).

We are determined to continue our "革 (kaku) = Big Change" initiatives, which will be in their third year, and grow and evolve in responding to the once-in-a-century change.

As a company that provides technology services needed by manufacturing customers, we will further strengthen our advantage in the embedded software business. In addition, we will promote collaboration with group companies and will work with startups to expand the range of products and services available to customers. Through these efforts, we will redouble efforts to reinforce and stabilize our business foundation.

We look forward to your continued patronage in 2024.
